My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece is written by Annabel Pitcher and it is about ten year old Jamie Matthews whose sister died five years ago when a terrorist bomb blew up in London. In the years that followed Jamie’s family fell apart. His sister Jas, struggles to be her own person while his mother leaves to be with another man and his father is lost at the bottom of a vodka bottle. As Jamie tries to navigate childhood he learns that adults are not always right and that grief is an over-consuming emotion. Will his family ever be together again?
I love this story it’s very motivational and inspiring although at some parts it can be tragically sad. The way Annabel Pitcher writes her stories is amazing she really captivates the reader from the very first sentence!
Personally I would recommend this book to 12+ because some parts of the story could be quite upsetting for younger readers as well as some of the topics and words being difficult to understand. However some websites and book reviews say that 10+ is fine, so I think that it really depends on your reading level!
I hope you liked this book review, sorry I haven’t been doing many reviews recently, I’ve been very busy! Please let me know if this has been helpful or if you have read any of Annabel Pitcher’s books that you like (or dislike).
