The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien is about Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who lives a simple life in the shire in Middle Earth, until the wizard Gandalf arrives and convinces him to join a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim the kingdom of Erebor. The journey takes Bilbo on a path through treacherous lands swarming with dangers. Bilbo also encounters a simple gold ring that is tied to the fate of Middle Earth in ways he cannot even imagine.
This story is not just for fantasy fanatics, it is a book that is filled with adventure and mystery. The story has also been split into three films: ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’, ‘The Hobbit: Battle of the Three Armies’.
I would recommend this book to 10-13+ year old children as well as adults because some of the vocabulary used can be quite hard to understand. I would also recommend the Lord of the Rings, also by J.R.R. Tolkien, which follows the life of Bilbo Baggins’ adopted heir Frodo take on a quest to destroy the One Ring, saving Middle Earth from the evil Sauron.
Thank you for reading,
